Understanding Cremation Urn Sizes

Choosing the right urn size is an important part of the memorial process. Cremation urns come in various shapes, volumes, and designs — each intended for a specific purpose. Selecting the correct size ensures your loved one’s ashes are held respectfully and securely.

As a general rule:

1 pound of body weight ≈ 1 cubic inch of ash capacity.

For example, an individual who weighed 175 lbs. before cremation would need an urn that holds at least 175 cubic inches.

Adult Cremation Urns

Capacity: 200–225 cubic inches (≈ 15 cups)

For: One adult weighing up to around 230 lbs. before cremation. Please note that our products vary in capacity. Check product description for more info.

Adult urns are the standard size for holding the full remains of one individual. They can be displayed at home, interred in a cemetery, or placed within a columbarium niche.

Our adult urns come in a wide range of styles and materials — including solid brass, hand-finished wood, cloisonné, marble, and biodegradable designs. Many can be customized with engraving or full-color UV printing.
